PDX, Inc. provides SaaS technology to nearly 10,000 pharmacies to run their operations, store and provide access to healthcare records, offer store-based mail order prescriptions, improve patient outcomes, and remain competitive and compliant with industry needs and standards.
As part of a major growth initiative, PDX wanted to monetize and deliver value added analytics to its pharmacy customers for a clearer picture of the patients they serve. PDX wanted to build a scalable and flexible analytics service, and populated with data from various systems it could easily deliver to pharmacies across the country.
PDX set up a proof-of-concept (POC) competition with one team using a Hadoop solution, another using a cloud-based Hadoop and data warehouse solution, and a third team using Snowflake’s data warehouse built for the cloud. Within a week, the Snowflake team was putting data into the warehouse, while the Hadoop teams spent an additional two weeks simply trying to get their systems up and running.
PDX chose Snowflake because of its many benefits, including ease of use, on-demand scalability, HIPAA-standard encryption, native integration with analytics visualization tools, the ability to load data and run queries at the same time without degrading performance, and a SaaS approach that eliminated on-premises data warehouse management hassles and headaches.
Snowflake enables PDX to analyze its data faster, more securely and more easily with greater agility to add revenue streams from new business models PDX has yet to discover.
