Leading Cloud Data Warehousing Company Invests to Support Current and Future Growth with New Executives and Expanded Headquarters

SAN MATEO, Calif. – April 7, 2016Snowflake Computing, the cloud data warehousing company, today announced strategic new additions to its executive team and board to support and accelerate Snowflake’s growth and success in the market. Today’s announcement welcomes Sameet Agarwal as vice president of engineering and Barbara Walkowski as chief legal officer in addition to adding Jeremy Burton to the Snowflake board of directors.

The appointment of Jeremy Burton to Snowflake’s board of directors brings more than 20 years of experience building and running technology businesses, from $250 million to $20 billion. Currently, Burton is the president of products and marketing at EMC, where he is responsible for EMC Product Business Units. He also served as EMC’s executive vice president and CMO. Prior to EMC, Burton was president and CEO of Serena Software, a leader in application development software, and he also dedicated his time and leadership skills in various roles with Symantec, Veritas Software Corporation (acquired by Symantec) and Oracle.

“Snowflake has established itself as an innovator in a market ripe for disruption, pioneering a cloud-native data warehouse,” said Burton. “I’m excited to work with the board and leadership team to build on the tremendous work they’ve already done and establish Snowflake as the next great platform for data analytics.”

Sameet Agarwal, who brings more than 20 years of experience to Snowflake’s executive team, has joined the Snowflake team to manage and lead the company’s product development. Agarwal joins Snowflake from Facebook, where he served as director of engineering for the past four years. Prior to Facebook, he served as a general manager for SQL Server at Microsoft for 16 years.

In addition, Barbara Walkowski joins Snowflake from C3 Energy, where she served as interim general counsel. Previously, she was chief operating officer at Get Satisfaction (acquired by Sprinklr) and vice president of legal affairs at Siebel Systems (acquired by Oracle) for almost a decade. Walkowski was also an attorney at IBM, where she was responsible for a wide range of legal and transactional matters for two IBM divisions. At Snowflake, she will be responsible for the company’s worldwide legal affairs.

“The market expertise, wisdom and counsel of a strong leadership team is crucial to continuing Snowflake’s success,” said Bob Muglia, CEO of Snowflake. “We’re fortunate to bring Jeremy’s proven skills and expertise to our board as we enter this next phase of growth. Sameet’s extensive engineering and leadership experience at Facebook and Microsoft will help us to deliver our future technology and product vision, and Barbara’s broad experience will be immensely valuable as we grow and expand our business.”

In addition to growing its leadership team, Snowflake is also expanding its corporate headquarters by 30 percent in order to support its growing business. This expansion in downtown San Mateo will address and support important corporate initiatives, including continuing to attract the top talent as Snowflake continues to innovate its leading cloud data warehouse service.
